We were asked if we could restore this lovely 56′ x 26′ pond in Gloucestershire. The liner had perished, it hadn’t been cleaned in years and with a lot of fish resident, the client was concerned for their welfare.
As with most jobs, we generally have enough storage tanks to hold anything, so we set up our swimming pool, pumped across water, caught and transferred the fish and then set about removing the years of silt and dirt; finally getting back to a clean pond.
Generally, we leave the old liner in as another membrane of defence to the new liner. Our geotextile membrane was laid (to protect the new liner) before our ‘standard’ Firestone EPDM PondGard 1.02mm EPDM rubber liner was introduced and settled.
Once installed, the water returns with the fish, wildlife and plants following. We generally give the re-circulatory / filtration system a service too and after the clean-up, the pond is fit for its future life.
