Turtle create new balcony deck for holiday cottage.
We were tasked with making some usable outdoor space to this holiday cottage in Snowdonia in 2015. The river Dyfi runs below the cottage and the property is in a stunning location, A local contractor did the machine work to create parking on newly-bought land whilst we designed and built a balcony deck to wrap around the house, capable of with-standing whatever weather was thrown at it.
With local knowledge in mind, we built a deck that effectively cantilevered over the edge, just in case this spate river rose that far (and it did!) so that water had a clear path without legs or other impediments. The deck is designed to hold four people and a picnic bench and whilst glass balustrades would have been the icing on this particular cake, they’re not relevant to this cottage nor the potential of weather problems.
Roll on to 2020 and after the general Covid lock-down, we were tasked with sprucing up and renovating the deck, due to its high moisture location. Inspired from our paint results on the Pencaedu deck, this balcony deck has now been treated to a triple-coating of Cuprinol’s anti-slip paint, converting it from a slippery deck to one of pure grip, even in lashing rain.
