We were asked to renovate this tired concrete space in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol. The brief was for a safe space for children to play, perhaps with a segregated adults area capturing the last of the evening sun. The result was this twin-level softwood deck with storage.
Further inspection found that the party wall was ready to fall over due to overgrown planting, so after negotiation with the neighbour, a new wooden fence was also erected.
The deck was designed to permit a quiet corner for the adults to enjoy an evening drink whilst open cupboard space below them would allow all the days’ toys to be put away daily. Burbage Ironcraft metal deck railing units also gave the feeling of openness rather than more restrictive timber balusters. A great little project that best maximises available space.
