We were commissioned by MACE Group on behalf of Cornwall County Council, working alongside CORMAC, to reline four of their estate farm slurry pits.
This lagoon was originally lined in HDPE and had failed through puncture, weather or mis-treatment. HDPE can’t be repaired, though you can attempt to stick EPDM accessories to limp a little more life out of the project.
CORMAC facilitated the draining and preparation of each lagoon, allowing us to come in and line using Firestones’ super thick 1.5mm GeoGard lining material.
As this material is so heavy (nearly a tonne per roll) and, thus, requires specialist lifting solutions, we installed half-width rolls allowing normal work conditions to prevail, albeit with a few more welds.
With the lagoon now lined in EPDM, should any future damage occur, it can be repaired AND warranted. This lagoon should now see up to 60-years service to the Estate – a life-long investment.
Two farms have now been completed in the programme, with further farms scheduled for conversion in the future.
