We were asked to convert this pond and make it safe for this clients new young family in Bristol. We installed Safapond to protect the pond – here’s a step-by-step guide on what we did.
For best results, we drain and clean the pond. Safapond can stand on legs, so you don’t want to place those on soft pond-floor waste, only to sink when loaded. We therefore drain the pond, clean it, then we all know that the carcass is going onto solid ground.
Once clean, the pond is re-filled to get right water level, then the grid can be installed to be just millimetres beneath final water level.
Should a child or other person then fall on it, the sharp edges of the grid cause pain. Pain = crying out and a bodies natural reaction to remove itself from pain. This promotes self rescue, whilst the crying out may summons help.
Once all our installations are complete, we weight test it. The grids are designed for children of 5-stone or below. We load with around 4 times that – so you can be sure it’ll work, not that we ever want it tested in anger.
